Sexual Harassment Redressal Cell
The Sexual Harassment Redressal Cell at the New Institute of Technology, Kolhapur, is committed to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all students, faculty, and staff. As a coeducational institution, we provide equal opportunities to everyone, fostering a healthy and professional atmosphere where both men and women work together harmoniously.
However, we take a firm stance against any form of harassment. Any complaints related to physical contact, sexual advances, demand for sexual favours, inappropriate remarks, or any unwelcome expressions—whether physical, verbal, or non-verbal—are taken very seriously. We are committed to addressing such issues and ensuring that appropriate actions are taken according to the rules and regulations of the college. This cell’s primary purpose is to create awareness and sensitise all students and staff to prevent sexual harassment on campus.
Complaints related to sexual harassment can be lodged with the TCSC, which will ensure the initiation of disciplinary actions in line with the institution’s policies.
Why an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)?
The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) has been formed in compliance with the POSH Act (Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013), enacted on December 9, 2013. This act aims to Prevent, Prohibit, and Redress sexual harassment in educational and professional environments.
The ICC also operates in accordance with the University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations, 2015 on the prevention, prohibition, and redressal of sexual harassment of women employees and students in higher educational institutions, enforced from May 2, 2016.
What is ICC?
The POSH Act mandates the establishment of an ICC at all workplaces and educational institutions to address complaints of sexual harassment effectively and to provide support to the victims.
Functions of the ICC:
- To prevent sexual harassment in the workplace and educational institution.
- To promote gender equality and ensure the prevention of discrimination and harassment against women, fostering a spirit of gender amity.
- To organise periodic programs on women’s empowerment and awareness.
- To ensure a safe, supportive, and congenial environment for women in the institution.
Who Can Approach the ICC?
Any aggrieved woman who experiences harassment in the workplace or academic setting can approach the ICC. An aggrieved woman may be:
- An employee of the institution.
- A visitor to the institution or its premises.
- A student of the institution.
Note: If the aggrieved woman is unable to file a complaint due to physical or mental incapacity, or in the case of her death, a legal heir or any designated person can file the complaint on her behalf.
The New Institute of Technology, Kolhapur, is committed to maintaining a safe and dignified environment for all individuals, ensuring that every grievance is heard, and prompt action is taken.
